Grant and Woolery Repeat as USA Softball Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists
April 30, 2026 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Seniors Megan Grant and Jordan Woolery on the No. 5 UCLA softball team were named USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 Finalists, the organization announced Wednesday.
The USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award, which is considered the most prestigious honor in Division I women's collegiate softball, recognizes the outstanding athletic achievement by Division I female players across the country.
This marks the second consecutive season that Grant and Woolery have both been named Top 25 Finalists. Woolery was later named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2025 season.
Grant and Woolery form one of the nation's most dominant hitting duos, combining for 65 home runs, 175 RBIs and a .493 batting average. Grant leads the country in slugging percentage (1.350) and on-base percentage (.646) and ranks second in home runs (34). Woolery is on pace to become the first player in NCAA Division I history to record a .500 batting average with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs in a season. Earlier this year, she became the fifth player in Division I history to reach 100 RBIs in a season.
Both players have broken longstanding UCLA single-season records in 2026. Grant's 34 home runs surpass Stacey Nuveman's previous record of 31 set in 1999, while Woolery has tied that mark. Woolery also broke Nuveman's single-season RBI record of 91, also set in 1999.
The list of 25 finalists will be trimmed to 10 on May 13, with three finalists announced May 18. The winner will be revealed prior to the start of the Women's College World Series.
Redesigned in 2017, the Player of the Year trophy symbolizes the prestige of the award in honor of one of the greatest to ever wear the USA Softball uniform – three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Lisa Fernandez, whose athletic achievements embody the essence of this prestigious award.
Two Bruins have taken home the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award a total of three times. Rachel Garcia (2017-21) was honored in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019 and Stacey Nuveman (1997, 1999, 2001-02) won UCLA's first award in 2002.
