Respected club coach Luciano Fusco returns for his second year as UCLA's assistant coach.
In his first full season in 2016, Fusco helped lead UCLA to its 34th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. UCLA placed eight players on the All-Pac-12 team, including Pac-12 Co-Player of the Year, Jose Hernandez, and one other first-team member in Jackson Yueill. Hernandez was also named a NSCAA All-America selection. Three Bruins were selected in the 2017 MLS Draft as Abu Danladi was selected first overall, Jackson Yueill sixth overall and Michael Amick in the second round. In addition, three UCLA players signed MLS Homegrown contracts under Fusco as Hernandez, Reggie Cannon and Seyi Adekoya turned professional.
Prior to coming to UCLA, Fusco was the curriculum developer at DeAnza Force and the U16-14 head coach for the DeAnza Force ECNL. He also previously served as Burlingame Soccer Club's Technical Director from 2012-13, where he had coached from 2003-12. From 2010-16, Fusco was the head coach of the Region 2 Player Development Program, and from 2012-16, he was a NORCAL coaching staff instructor and member of the technical committee.
Fusco graduated cum laude from San Francisco State in 2010 with a degree in Kinesiology (human movement with emphasis in exercise physiology). He played professionally for Club Atletico Huracan in the Argentina first division and for Esmeralda de Leon in the Mexico second division in 1997. In 1999, he played with San Francisco del Rincon in Mexico's Primera A before moving to Oro Jalisco in the second division. Fusco also had stints with Gueneon in France and with MLS teams San Jose Earthquakes and Chivas USA.
