Walker Zimmerman, a defender on MLS club LAFC and a regular call-up to the US Men’s National Team, is in his first season as a volunteer assistant coach with UCLA.

Zimmerman is currently in his second season with Bob Bradley’s LAFC, accruing over 50 appearances in the last two years. During the 2018 season, he made 31 appearances and recorded four goals and one assist.

Prior to LAFC, Zimmerman spent five years with FC Dallas, who selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

In 2017, he made first USMNT appearance in a 1-0 friendly win against Jamaica. Zimmerman has 10 caps and two goals with the senior team, scoring against Bolivia on May 29, 2018 and against Panama on Jan. 28, 2019. He previously had captained the US U-18 National Team in the 2011 Milk Cup.

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Zimmerman spent two seasons at Furman University from 2011-12. As a freshman, he helped Furman reach that NCAA Tournament while taking home third team All-American, first team all-league, and Southern Conference Freshman of the Year honors. In 2012, he was named an NSCAA Second Team All-American. He tallied 11 goals over 39 career games with the Paladins.

Zimmerman and his wife, Sally, reside in Santa Monica, Calif.
