Rodrigo Rodrigues begins his first season as an assistant coach with the UCLA womenโs rowing program in 2016-17.

With prior coaching experience both in the United States and internationally, Rodrigues most recently served as a coach for the Long Beach Junior Crew womenโs varsity in 2016. He coached the U.S. Junior Womenโs Sculling Team at the Junior World Championships in 2015 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rodrigues, who originally hails from Florianópolis, Brazil, began his rowing career as a coxswain in 1991. He had his first international rowing experience in Japan in 1995, racing in three regattas to represent a Japanese company that sponsored his team. In 2001, he coxed the Brazilian National Team M4+ at the World Championships in Lucerne, Switzerland.

Rodrigues began his coaching career in 1995, serving as an assistant coach with various clubs across multiple levels of rowing. In 2010, he served as a coach for the Brazilian National Team. Among his highlights with the Brazilian team included helping the LW1X to a gold medal at the 2011 World Championships in Bled, Slovenia. He also helped two boats qualify for the 2012 Olympics in London.

In 2012, Rodrigues moved to the United States to learn English and develop a rowing program as a coach with Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association (Port Angeles, Wash.). There, he helped develop three medalists โ one gold and two bronze โ at the 2015 USRowing Northwest Regional Youth Championships. One of his athletes won the silver medal (womenโs single) at the 2015 USRowing Youth National Championships and finished seventh (womenโs double) at the 2015 Junior World Championships.

Rodrigues earned his bachelorโs degree in physical education from Universidade Estácio de Sá (Rio de Janeiro) in 2008.
