FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman pitcher Amanda Freed was near perfect Saturday night, pitching her second no-hitter of the season, powering No. 1 UCLA (23-0) to a 9-0 victory over Missouri at the 1999 Fresno State Softball Classic.
Freed, who pitched a no-hitter in her collegiate debut against Santa Clara on Feb. 5, duplicated that feat Saturday, registering four strikeouts, walking just two, in six complete innings of work. With her 11th victory of the season, Freed also notched her ninth shutout of the year, owning a team-best 0.51 ERA.
Freed helped her own cause, recording an RBI single in the first inning and an RBI double in the third, finishing the game 2-for-4, with two RBI, two runs scored and a double.
Shortstop Crissy Buck enjoyed one of her finest outings of the season, finishing 3-for-4, with a double and four RBI. Also performing well for the Bruins, who had 17 hits in the game, were second baseman Lyndsey Klein and right fielder Lupe Brambila, as each went 3-for-4.
The Bruins take a 5-0 tournament record heading into Sunday's Championship game with host Fresno State. That game is at 3:00 p.m. and can be heard via the internet at www.broadcast.com
