No. 1 UCLA Defeats No. 15 Washington, 5-2

LOS ANGELES - In its final regular-season home action of the year, the No. 1 ranked UCLA men's tennis team defeated No. 15 ranked University of Washington, 5-2, in a Pac-10 Conference match at the Los Angeles Tennis Center today. With the victory, UCLA notches its 20th win of the season and improves to 20-1 overall, 6-1 in Pac-10 play, while Washington fell to 15-8 overall and 2-4 in league action.
The Bruins won the doubles point, with UCLA's No. 20 ranked team of Jean-Noel Grinda/Jong-Min Lee finishing first on court No. 2 and posting an 8-4 win over Washington's Mark Wooley and Nicholas Quatrochi. Washington pulled even with a 9-7 win by its No. 19 ranked team of Robert Kendrick /Eric Drew over UCLA's Jason Cook/Brandon Kramer in the No. 1 position. UCLA clinched the doubles point when Marcin Rozpedski/Chris Sands rallied to defeat Washington's team of Andy Posavac/ Jeremy Berman, 8-6 in the No. 3 position.
In singles play, the Bruins won four of the six matches, with three finishing in straight sets. Washington struck first when No. 51 ranked Eric Drew defeated No. 84 ranked Jason Cook on court No. 2. UCLA won the next three matches to clinch the team victory. Brandon Kramer (95) cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jeremy Berman on court 5, while Jong-Min Lee defeated Marius Lunde, 6-1, 6-2, in the No. 4 position and Zack Fleishman won 6-2, 6-4 over Andy Posavac in the No. 3 slot.
On court one, UCLA's No. 11 ranked Jean-Noel Grinda was down a set after losing a tiebreaker, but took the second set 6-4. However, Washington's No. 9 ranked Robert Kendrick rallied to give Washington its second team point by winning the third set 6-3. In the last match of the day, UCLA's Marcin Rozpedski lost in the first set but came back in the second set by winning a tiebreaker, and easily defeated Christoph Kull 6-2 in the third and final set.
The Bruins' will travel to the Bay Area to face Cal and Stanford in their last two duals of the regular season. They will meet No. 52 ranked Cal on Friday, April 16 and 9th ranked Stanford the following day.
