For the second time this season, the UCLA softball team swept past local rival Cal State Northridge, defeating the Matadors 2-1 and 6-2 this past Wednesday in Northridge. The Bruins, behind solo homers from Stacey Nuveman and Crissy Buck, took game one 2-1. Bruin second baseman Lyndsey Klein led the charge in game two, going 4-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in the 6-2 UCLA win.
UCLAs 2-1 opening game-one victory over the Matadors marked its 34th-straight victory of the season, giving UCLA its best start in the programs 24-year history. The previous best was a 33-0 record set by the 1992 Bruins, who went on to claim that seasons national championship. Two more victories and the Bruins will tie the NCAA record for consecutive victories of 37, set by Princeton in 1996.
The top-ranked Bruins hit the road this weekend as they travel to Seattle for a battle with the No. 4 Washington Huskies on Saturday. That game can be seen live on Fox Sports Net beginning at Noon.
