WESTWOOD - The 11th-ranked UCLA women's swimming and diving team kept it close, but was unable to pull off the upset, falling to No. 5 USC by a 158-142 margin on Saturday afternoon at Men's Gym Pool on the UCLA campus.
Once again, the Bruins were led by senior All-American Keiko Price, who earned event titles in the 200 Free, 50 Free and 100 Free, and swam leadoff on UCLA's victorious 400 Free Relay team. For the second consecutive home meet, Price narrowly missed the pool record of 23.01 in the 50 Free, this time turning in a 23.03 for the event title. Price also turned in NCAA B-Standard times in the 200 Free (1:48.87) and 100 Free (50.21), and was the only three-event winner of the meet.
Lyndee Hovsepian and Julia Voitovitsch were the other event winners for the Bruins, as Hovsepian and Jen Noddle went 1-2 in the 200 Breast, and Voitovitsch won the 100 Fly in a time of 54.62.
For the Women of Troy, Paige Francis, Asa Sandlund and Kellie Brennan all won multiple events, with Francis taking the 100 and 200 Backstrokes, Sandlund winning the 1650 and 500 Free, and Brennan winning both diving events.
This was the final dual meet of the season for both squads, who will now complete their tapering for the Pac-10 Championships, to be held in Long Beach, Calif., Feb. 24-26.
