HONOLULU - Julie Adams had just one hit in UCLA's Saturday night matchup with No. 20 Hawai'i, but she made it count. Adams followed a two-run home run by Amanda Freed with a grand slam of her own, giving the Bruins an 8-1 lead over host Hawai'i at the Paradise Softball Classic. The victory gives the Bruins an 11-0 record on the season, and was the fourth time this year that the team earned a victory in five innings due to the eight-run rule.
In addition to her two-run home run, Freed pitched a three-hitter while striking out five batters. Seven of UCLA's nine runs in the contest were scored on home runs, as Julie Marshall joined Adams and Freed on the home run list with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Rainbow Wahine scored their lone run in the top of the second inning on an RBI infield single by left fielder Stacie Mirano.
Sunday's Paradise Softball Classic championship play begins at 9 a.m. Hawaiian Time when Hofstra and Texas Tech face off for the right to face the top-seeded Bruins in Game 3 at 1 p.m. HT. Long Beach State and Texas square off at 11 a.m. (HT) to decide who will face the second-seeded Rainbow Wahine at 3 p.m. in Game 4.
