Post-Meet Quotes - NCAA Preliminaries
April 19, 2002 | Gymnastics
Head Coach Valorie Kondos Field:
"You can never take making it to the Super Six for granted, and every year the competition gets tougher, and tougher and tougher. I was extremely pleased with our team because I thought we came out and we were kind of flat tonight. I don't feel that we gave our best performance, however I was very impressed with their poise, starting on beam. Every student athlete had a small mistake up there but got their poise and their confidence right back, and that's what is always interesting for me as a coach to see - how they handle non-perfection."
"I am thrilled for Jamie Dantzscher because it is well-earned, and I say that because Jamie has worked really hard to feel as confident on balance beam as she does on the other three events. It's nice to see an athlete, an Olympian, keep getting better and better."
All-Around Champion Jamie Dantzscher:
"My main focus is always the team first when I'm at NCAAs. But it (winning the all-around) was definitely on the back of my mind. Starting on beam for me personally was actually a good thing. Afterwards it was like this big load off my chest and I got to relax and enjoy the other three events."
"We did well today - not our best - but we're saving it for tomorrow."
Junior Kristin Parker:
"I was really proud of everybody. I felt that everyone did their very best, and we're excited to go out there tomorrow and do even better. We hit 24-for-24 so it's just a matter of focusing on the little things."
Sophomore Jeanette Antolin:
"I think we went out there and did what had to do. We hit all of our routines, and there are a couple of things we can improve upon. All in all, we did a pretty good job and are preparing for tomorrow."
Freshman Michelle Conway:
"We hit 24-for-24 routines, and it was great to see (Valerie) Velasco come out and nail a vault that she was competing for the first time."
Freshman Christie Tedmon:
"We had no regrets tonight, and we want to go in to tomorrow night's Super Six with a die-hard attitude. We are ready to go."
