Bruins Earn Second Straight NCAA Berth

The UCLA women's golf team earned its second consecutive NCAA Tournament berth Saturday by tying for first place with Pepperdine at the NCAA West Regionals at the Stanford Golf Course.

The Bruins posted an even par score of 288 in the final round, and tied the Waves for the regional crown with a score of 883, 19-over par. California finished third at 889, followed by Arizona at 890 and Stanford at 901. Arizona State, Washington and USC also finished among the top eight and earned NCAA bids.

Individually for the Bruins, sophomore Gina Umeck tied for eighth place at three-over par 219 after carding an even par round of 72 Saturday. Freshman Charlotte Mayorkas, who posted a two-under par score of 70 in the final round, tied for 16th place. Sophomore Melissa Martin tied for 23rd at 224 and freshman Yvonne Choe tied for 25th at 226, 10-over par. Senior Alicia Um tied for 35th place at 228.

Arizona's Lorena Ochoa won her eighth tournament of the year, capturing medalist honors with a six-under par score of 210 after posting a final round score of 70. Pepperdine's Katherine Hull placed second at 215, one-under par. Four players tied for third place.
