LOS ANGELES - The No. 1-ranked UCLA men's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season Tuesday, defeating a short-handed UNLV squad, 7-0 at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With only five eligible players, the Rebels, who fall to 0-2 with the loss, were forced to forfeit the No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles positions.

Bruin freshman Chris Surapol made the most of his dual-match debut Tuesday, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over UNLV's Ryan Barber at No. 5 singles. At the No. 4 spot, senior Lassi Ketola dropped only two games en route to a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Joel Keilbowicz.

With Tobias Clemens sitting out this match, Marcin Matkowski played at the No. 1 position for the first time this year, cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win over UNLV's top player Aviram Salomon. UCLA's Erfan Djahangiri was equally impressive at No. 3 singles, registering a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Milos Blagojevic.

The longest match of the day came at the No. 2 spot where Bruin senior Rodrigo Grilli needed a tie-breaker in the second set to overcome Romain Massaro, 6-1, 7-6(4).

One other Bruin saw action Friday, as Alberto Francis teamed with Djahangiri at No. 2 doubles, downing UNLV's Blagojevic/Keilbowicz, 8-0

UCLA's next match is this Friday against defending NCAA Champion USC at the Mark's Tennis Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Trojans are ranked No. 7 in the latest ITA rankings.
