Box Score

Los Angeles, CA - In a wet, soggy affair at Drake Stadium, the top-ranked UCLA men's soccer team shut out Rutgers, 2-0. Bruin goalkeeper Zach Wells made eight saves to record his ninth shutout of the year.

Despite the rainy conditions, both teams came out firing with quality shots. Freshman defender Brandon Owens clanged an Adolfo Gregorio corner kick off the post in the third minute, and senior forward Matt Taylor hit the crossbar in the seventh minute. In the 31st minute, Rutgers midfielder Chris Karcz blasted a shot to the right side, causing Wells to make an outstanding diving save. The Scarlet Knights had another good opportunity in the 34th minute when Karcz had a shot that went past Wells, but Ty Maurin cleared it off the line to keep the game scoreless.

Bruin midfielder Mike Enfield broke the scoreless tie at 41:15, firing in a shot from close-range, unassisted. Freshman forward Chad Barrett gave UCLA some breathing room at 63:30, receiving a long pass from Owens and then chipping Rutgers goalkeeper Scott Conway. After getting past Conway, Barrett recollected the ball and kicked it in for his eighth goal of the season.

UCLA, winners of 13 straight games, will next host Washington on Friday, Nov. 7 at Drake Stadium at 7 pm.
