Bruins Tied for Fifth at Husky Invitational

UCLA's second-ranked men's golf team is tied for fifth after two rounds at the Husky Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington at the Gold Mountain Olympic Course in Bremerton, WA.
The Bruins posted a two-round total of 747, 27-over par, and trail first place Washington by 16 shots. Oregon State is second at 740, followed by Brigham Young at 744 and San Diego State at 745. The Bruins are tied with Cal.
Individually, senior All-american John Merrick is three shots off the lead, tied for third place at one-under par 143. Merrick posted rounds of 72-71 and trails UW's Brock Mackenzie, who is at four-under par 140 after a pair of 70s. Brad Simpson of Oregon State is second at three-under par 141. Merrick is tied with Cal's Scott Carlyle.
Senior Travis Johnson is tied for fifth place at even par 144 after posting a pair of 72s and junior John Poucher is tied for seventh at one-over par 145 (74-71). Senior Steve Conway is tied for 34th at 153, freshman Chris Heintz is 59th at 164 and sophomore Breene Murphy is 60th at 165.
Final round action continues Tuesday.
