Bruins in Seventh Place After First Day of Pac-10 Championships

UCLA Swimming Kicks Off New Year with 84-74 Victory over Washington State

Final Stats

In the first meet of the New Year, the Bruins defeated Washington State 84-74. The UCLA is now 5-1 overall, 3-1 in the Pac-10. On the day, the Bruins won nine of the 10 events.

UCLA's individual winners were Kim Vandenberg (200m Free, 2:02.15), Jane Imagane (400m IM, 4:56.59), Sara Platzer (50m Free, 26.12) and Krista Daley (400m Free, 4:26.25). The Bruins' relays were also victorious. The 200m Medley Relay team of Naoko Watanabe, Amy Thurman, Kristen Lewis and Platzer won in 1:57.85. The 300m Fly Relay of Kristen Lewis, Daley and Courtney Iversen won in 3:11.52. The 300m Back Relay of Kim Scarborough, Jackie Lobdell and Kristen Tinney won in 3:18.57. And, UCLA's 450 Free Relay squad won in 4:08.15.

Washington State's 300m Breast Relay squad of Monika Povilonyte, Lesley Ouellette and Kayli Changstrom won in 3:46.59. The Cougars' Erin McCleave was the top individual performer, placing second in the 200m Free (2:06.37) and 400m Free (4:27.68).

UCLA will return to action January 17 against the UC San Diego Tritons. The meet will take place in La Jolla, CA, and will commence at noon.
