400 Medley Relay Team Places 13th at NCAA Championships

The No. 10 UCLA Bruin swimming team had a tough first day at the NCAA Championships on Thursday, as only the 400 Medley Relay (3:41.64) team advanced to a finals event. The team of Katie Arnold, Kim Vandenberg, Nicolette Teo, and Katie Nelson placed 13th in a time of 3:41.64. Several Bruins will be in action on Friday in preliminary heats of their events as the NCAA Championships continue in West Lafayette, IN.

In the 200 Free Relay, UCLA placed 17th with a time of 1:32.79, and are an alternate for Friday's final. Nelson placed 31st in the 500 Free in a time of 4:48.53. In the 200 Individual Medley, senior Kim Scarborough placed 46th (2:03.50), freshman Chiemi Yamamoto was 57th (2:04.58), and junior Shellene Catalano placed 59th (2:04.95). Junior Vandenberg placed 32nd in the 50 Freestyle (23.07), while sophomore Arnold was 50th (23.46).

Slated to compete on Friday are - Scarborough and Yamamoto in the 400 IM; Vandenberg in the 100 Fly; Nelson in the 200 Free; Catalano, junior Eileen Seissen and freshman Nicolette Teo in the 100 Breaststroke; Arnold in the 100 Back;
