Arron Afflalo Named UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week

Sophomore guard Arron Afflalo (Compton, CA/Centennial HS) of the UCLA men's basketball team was selected as the UCLA/MET-Rx Student-Athlete of the Week (January 2-8) after leading the Bruins to a sweep of the Arizona schools in Pac-10 action.

Against Arizona, Afflalo played 32 minutes to record a game-high 22 points (career-high tying 9-12, 2-6, 1-2), scoring 14 of his 22 in the first half alone. He also recorded three rebounds and two assists as UCLA snapped an eight year losing streak to the Wildcats in the desert with an 85-79 win.

Against Arizona State, Afflalo played 35 minutes, scoring a team-high 21 points (4-14, 1-9 and set a career-high from the free throw line, shooting 12-of-12. He also recorded seven rebounds (tied career-high with three offensive boards) and had just one turnover as the Bruins went on to defeat ASU 61-60.

UCLA's sweep of the Arizona schools was the first time since 1997 that the Bruins defeated both Arizona and Arizona State in the same road trip.

This is Afflalo's second Athlete of the Week honor after previously winning for the week of December 12-18 and third of his career
