The UCLA swim and dive team concluded day one of the Texas Invitational in Austin with much success as five NCAA marks were achieved, as well as nine lifetime-bests and 16 season-bests during the finals on Thursday.

Sophomore Emily Bibb put in an impressive swim in the 500 free as she was the sole Bruin in an "A" final. Bibb finished seventh overall with a season-best and NCAA qualifying mark of 4:47.36. Three fellow Bruins also achieved NCAA marks in the 500 free - sophomores Sam Vanden Berge (12th, 4:49.51), Dani Milligan (13th, 4:49.56) and Alex Sullivan (17th, 4:49.35). The 500 free was one of UCLA's best groups on the day as seven of the eight finalists swam lifetime or season-best marks.

In the 100 fly, freshman Yasi Jahanshahi led the way as she finished 15th in a time of 55.46. In the "D" final, freshman Bianca Casciari (26th, 55.06), junior Kirsten Byers (28th, 55.39) and freshman Isabel Williams (32nd, 57.13) all tallied lifetime-bests.

Senior Madeleine Stanton led the 200 IM'ers as she placed 14th with a lifetime-best swim of 2:01.69. Fellow senior Kristen Fischer also tallied a lifetime-best as she placed 19th overall (2:02.47).

In the 50 free, senior Anna Poteete swam an NCAA qualifying time of 22.76 to finish 10th overall. Senior Brittany Hill led the divers as she posted a season-best score of 264.30 on three-meter.

Competition continues tomorrow in Austin.
