HENDERSON, Nev. - Senior Anjelica Selden tossed a one-hitter, striking out six and the top three hitters in the Bruin lineup went 6-for-9 with three runs scored, as sixth-ranked UCLA defeated Wisconsin 4-1 on Sunday at the UNLV Louisville Slugger Desert Classic.

The Bruins improve to 8-2 on the season, wrapping up the weekend 4-1, while the Badgers fall to 4-5.

For the eighth time in 10 games, the Bruins scored in the first inning, with UCLA improving to 8-0 when scoring in its first at-bat. Freshman Katie Schroeder and junior Amanda Kamekona had back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the inning and each moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by senior Krista Colburn. Sophomore Megan Langenfeld was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and freshman GiOnna DiSalvatore followed with a double to center to plate Schroeder and Kamekona to make it 2-0.

Selden was in cruise control after hitting a batter to start off the bottom of the first, setting down the next seven. After the Badgers had a player reach on an error in the third, Selden then retired another 10 in a row before Wisconsin got its lone hit on a two-out home run by Joey Daniels in the sixth. Selden finished the game with six strikeouts, walking nobody to improve to 4-1.

In the top of the sixth, the Bruins extended their lead to 3-0. Freshman Samantha Camuso reached base on a misplay by Wisconsin's Valyncia Raphael in left and came all the way around to score on the play.

In the seventh, UCLA had a two-out rally for more insurance. Kamekona tripled to right and was driven in on a single up the middle by Colburn to make it 4-1.

Schroeder, Kamekona and Colburn each had two hits at the top three spots in the batting order.

Letty Olivarez pitched the first inning for Wisconsin and allowed both runs, three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Leah Vanevenhoven tossed the final six innings, giving up two runs (one earned), five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The Bruins play six times next week. First up is a trip to Loyola Marymount on Wednesday at 2 p.m. followed by five games at the Palm Springs Classic (Feb. 22-24).
