UCLA vs. Cal State Fullerton
UCLA Head Coach Kelly Inouye-Perez
(opening statement) Historically, the first game of the post-season is a big one. You want to get on the winners side of the bracket. Even though we fell behind early, we knew we had time to come back and that if we played Bruin softball we would do just that.
(on playing Fullerton) We've had a cross-town rivalry with Fullerton for several years. We respect them very much. They are a great team. Earlier in the season, they were able to get the W. But we came out today to play UCLA softball and it showed out their on the field.
UCLA Pitcher Anjelica Selden
(on surrendering a first-inning home run) I don't get worried about giving up home runs. If they happen I just forget about it and move on. I know my teammates have my back and I know they have the ability to pick me up on defense and offense.
UCLA Infielder Amanda Kamekona
(on coming from behind) Even though we fell behind early, we knew there was a lot of ballgame left. There was time to come back and we were able to get the job done.
Cal State Fullerton Head Coach Michelle Gromacki
(opening statement) I felt we came out strong and felt like we finished the game strong. I felt we had a good game plan coming in to hold their hitters with our pitcher (Christine Hiner). I thought we did a pretty good job doing that. We made a switch to stop their momentum, when I thought they had some momentum coming, bringing in Jessica Doucette. Their offense is definitely dominating. It always has been.
(on playing in the Los Angeles regional) We were confident coming here. When I say here, I mean we were confident coming into postseason, being home in Southern California. UCLA's a good ball club, so they're tough competition. We're used to playing tough competition.
Cal State Fullerton Infielder Katie Gollhardt
(on her approach at the plate) Seeing her (Selden) for four years now, I know what's she got and what she likes to get me on. I just tried to approach and go after the ball, go through it, see how much I could get at it. I felt good up there.
