The UCLA swimming team opened up the 2009 portion of their schedule with two wins as they defeated Oregon State and UCSB on Saturday in Santa Barbara. The Bruins defeated Oregon State 182-77 and UCSB 165-94. They are now 9-0 all-time against the Beavers and 26-0 all-time against the Gauchos.

The Bruins tallied 11 wins in the 14 events that were contested with double even wins coming from juniors Sam Vanden Berge, Lauren Hall and Brittany Beauchan. UCLA also set new meet records 100 breast and 200 breast events.

Vanden Berge won both the 500 (5:00.35) and 1000 (10:13.27) free, Hall won the 200 free (1:50.61) and 400 IM (4:23.73) and Beauchan won both the 100 (1:02.66) and 200 (2:13.89) breast events with new meet record times.

Senior Isabell Fischer won the 100 backstroke (57.29), while sophomore Yasi Jahanshahi placed first in the 200 fly (2:01.25).

Two of UCLA's top freshmen, Lindsey Marchand and Laurence Delisle tasted victory for the first time as Bruins as Marchand won the 100 fly with a new meet record time (55.77) and Delisle was first in the 200 back (2:02.67).

The Bruins also won the 200 medley relay as Fischer, Beauchan, Marchand and freshman Emma Drysdale touched first in a time of 1:45.80.

The divers will compete next for the Bruins at the Trojan Diving Invitational in early November before rejoining the swimmers in Arizona for dual meet action against Arizona and Arizona State November 13th and 14th.
