Bruins Third after Round One at Regional Challenge

The top-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in third place following a windy, cold and wet day at the 14th Annual Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Course.

The Bruins posted a team score of 314 (+30) and trailed first-place Arizona State by nine shots and second place USC by one. Wake Forest was fourth at 315 (+31), followed by Michigan State at 316 (+32).

A cold day turned bitter and blustery on the inward nine for the Bruins. They made the made eight double bogeys on their final nine holes and played the par 3 fourth hole in five-over par. Three players were 33-over par on the day. The field's first round stroke average was 81.23.

Senior Tiffany Joh led the Bruins with a three-over par score of 74 and was tied for third place. Freshman Stephanie Kono was tied for seventh at 76. Veterans Maria Jose Uribe, Glory Yang and Sydnee Michaels were tied for 45th after carding rounds of 82 (+11).

Senior Ryann O'Toole, playing as an individual, was tied for seventh after posting a 76 (+5).

Arizona State's Juliana Murcia was the only player to break par on Monday, posting a 70 (-1) to take the first round lead.
