The third-ranked UCLA women's golf team was in sixth place Friday following the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship, hosted by Vanderbilt University in Franklin, TN.

The Bruins posted a team score of 284 (-4) and were six shots behind the leaders, Auburn and USC, which were tied at 10-under par 278. Alabama and Arizona State were tied for third place at eight-under 280, followed by fifth place Duke at 283 (-5).

Leading the Bruins was sophomore All-American Stephanie Kono, who was tied for eighth place at three-under par 69. Senior Sydnee Michaels, the defending individual champion, was tied for 15th place at 70 (-2). Sophomore Brianna Do was tied for 27th at 71 (-1). Tied for 57th were freshman Tiffany Lua and junior Glory Yang at two-over par 74.
