The UCLA swimming team opened up the Pac-10 Conference Championships with a bang on Wednesday evening as the Bruins shattered the school record in the 800 free relay. The foursome of Alex Sullivan, Lauren Hall, Laurence Delisle and Bianca Casciari touched the wall in a time of 7:09.60, bettering the previous record of 7:14.19, set last season.

Sullivan set the Bruins up for the record performance with her lifetime-best swim of 1:47.13, just .10 seconds shy of the 200 free school record set by Anna Poteete in 2008. Hall (1:47.59), Delisle (1:47.28) and Casciari (1:47.60) kept up the pace as the Bruins finished fifth overall with an NCAA consideration time.

The 200 medley relay team also had a big night as they narrowly missed a school record performance in the event. The Bruins touched seventh with a season-best and improved NCAA consideration time of 1:40.32. Swimming on the relay were Isabell Fischer, Brittany Beauchan, Lindsey Marchand and Madison Fitzgerald.

The Bruins stand in fifth-place after two scored events (96 points), while Arizona and USC are tied at the top with 116.

The swimming competition continues on Thursday in Long Beach, while one-meter diving gets underway in Federal Way, WA.
