Bruin Swimmers Cap Off NCAA Championships With Huge Performances

The Bruin swimmers had a huge final day at the NCAA Championships in West Lafayette, IN as Bianca Casciari, Brittany Beauchan and Sam Vanden Berge earned All-America honors.
As a team of six swimmers, the Bruins finished 18th overall with 49.5 points, UCLA's highest finish since the 2006-2007 season when they placed 15th. Florida won the team title followed by Stanford (2nd), California (3rd), Arizona (4th) and Georgia (5th).
The Bruins got off to a hot start in the morning prelim session as Casciari swam a lifetime-best in the 200 fly (1:55.14) to advance to the A final (old best 1:55.40). Beauchan then finished 15th in the 200 breast prelims (2:10.74) to advance to the B final.
The night session started off with Vanden Berge's career swim in the mile. Her time of 16:09.40 bettered her previous lifetime-best of 16:14.24 and placed her 13th overall as she picked up points for UCLA. Vanden Berge's finish gave her the first individual honorable mention All-America honor of her career.
Beauchan kept the Bruins hot as she broke her own school record in the 200 breast to win the B final. She came into the race with the 15th-best prelim time and moved to ninth with a fast career swim of 2:08.58 (old record/best 2:10.43). Her performance netted her the second individual honorable mention All-America honor of her career.
Casciari then followed up Beauchan's record-breaking swim with one of her own as she finished seventh in the championship final with a school record time of 1:54.87, breaking Kim Vandenberg's 2005 record of 1:54.99. Her seventh-place finish earned her the first individual All-America honor of her career.
Also on Saturday, Laurence Delisle finished 22nd in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.50, just .02 seconds shy of her lifetime-best mark. Lauren Hall finished 25th in the 200 breast (2:12.70), while Yasi Jahanshahi was 22nd in the 200 fly (1:57.51).
