Bruins Finish Fifth in Ohio

The third-ranked UCLA men's golf team captured fifth place on Tuesday at its season-opening event, the Jack Nicklaus Invitational at Muirfield Village in Dublin, OH.
The Bruins dropped a spot from Monday after posting a final round score of 300 (+12) for a 54-hole total of 886 (+22). They finished 24 shots behind Texas, which won the event with a three-round total of 862 (-2), following a final round score of 287 (-1). Host Ohio State took runner-up honors at 878 (+14), followed by Illinois at 884 (+20). Kent State was fourth at 885 (+21).
Sophomore Anton Arboleda led the Bruins individually, tying for ninth place at two-over par 218 following a 74 (+2) in the final round. Senior Alex Shi Yup Kim finished 17th at 222 (+6), following his round of 74 (+2) on Tuesday. Freshman Jay Hwang tied for 18th at 223 (+7) after carding a score of 75 (+3) and junior Pontus Widegren posted a 77 (+5) and tied for 25th at 225 (+9). Freshman Matt Pinizzotto tied for 40th at 231 (+15).
Illinois' Thomas Pieters won medalist honors with a three-round score of 209 (-7) following an even par round of 72 on Tuesday.
