
Winning Streak Comes to a Halt as UCLA Falls to UC Irvine

The 5th ranked UCLA men's volleyball team saw their seven-match winning streak come to an end after losing to the UC Irvine Anteaters 3-1.
The Bruins fell to 15-10 on the year and are now 8-9 in MPSF play, putting them in 8th place in the conference. On the other side, UC Irvine is now 14-11 overall and 10-8 in MPSF play. Game scores were 19-25, 26-24, 25-20 and 25-15.
UCLA took the first set by the score of 25-19 and were up 24-23 in the second, but the Bruins dropped the set 26-24 after Irvine reeled off four straight points. In the third set, the Bruins found themselves down by the score of 20-16, but fought back to push the score to 21-19. However, UC Irvine came off of a timeout and took four of the next five points to take the set. The Anteaters would eventually seal the win by taking the fourth set 25-15.
Junior Kyle Caldwell led the Bruins with 12 kills in the loss. Junior setter Alex Scattareggia chimed in with 40 assists and a career-high 12 digs as well. Freshman Gonzalo Quiroga was second on the team with 10 kills and juniors Jeremy Casebeer and Nick Vogel were right behind him with 8 apiece. Senior Tom Hastings also recorded 10 digs on the night. In addition, junior Thomas Amberg was not in the lineup tonight due to injury.
Overall, the Bruins were hurt by 20 service errors on the night and allowing a .356 hitting percentage to Irvine. Carson Clark led UC Irvine with 22 kills in the win.
The Bruins will be back on the court on Friday, April 1st against the UC San Diego Tritons at the John Wooden Center. Gametime is slated for 7:00 p.m. PT. The two teams met last Saturday at RIMAC Arena in San Diego with the Bruins sweeping the Tritons 3-0.
