The UCLA Women's Golf team finished the first round of the Stanford Intercollegiate today in Palo Alto, CA, posting 296 (+12) as a team after 18. The score placed the Bruins in 11th heading into the second day of play.
It was a difficult first round for all involved. In a tournament featuring three of the nation's top four teams and six of the top nine, no group finished under par. #4 USC finished day one on top, scoring a 286 (+2) to finish a stroke ahead of Pac-12 foe Oregon State at 287 (+3) and two strokes clear of #15 Vanderbilt. The Bruins, still without senior Tiffany Lua, finished just a stroke behind #9 UC Davis and two strokes behind #2 Arizona. UCLA will enter the second day two strokes ahead of Pac-12 rival Oregon.
Individually, the Bruins were led by sophomore Erynne Lee, who went even on the day with a 71 (E) to finish in a seven-way tie for 10th atop the individual leaderboard. Behind Lee was junior Ani Gulugian, who birdied her last hole to notch a 73 (+2) and finish in a tie for 25th overall. Sophomore Kyle Roig, in her second tournament of the year, carded a 75 (+4), and senior Lee Lopez posted a 77 (+6). Freshman Louise Ridderstrom finished with a 78 (+7) to round out the scoring for the Bruins.
Round two is this Saturday, Oct. 20th. For tee times and pairings click here.
