Sparked by freshman Louise Ridderstrom's three-under par 69, UCLA rose from sixth place to second after round two of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at The Bay Course in Kapalua.
UCLA's five-under par team score of 283 was the low round of the day and an improvement of 12 shots from its opening round. That score gave the Bruins a 36-hole total of 578 (+2). Washington overtook Pepperdine for first place, posting a score of 286 (-2) for a two-round total of 573 (-3). Pepperdine posted a score of 296 (+8) and fell to third at 581 (+5). Arizona State was fourth at 582 (+6), followed by fifth place Denver at 591 (+15).
It was an exciting day for the Bruins, who boasted three players whose total was six-under par and one who was just one-over par on the round. Ridderestrom's 69 (-3) was a collegiate best score, and featured five birdies and two bogeys, including two birdies on her final three holes. She was tied for ninth place at 144 (E).
Junior Ani Gulugian also recorded five birdies on the day, including two on her last two holes. Her second round 70 (-2) gave her a 36-hole total of 145 (+1) and vaulted her 20 spots up the leader board into a tie for 11th.
Senior Tiffany Lua posted a 71 (-1), carding an eagle three on the par 5 sixth hole. She made two bogeys and a birdie after that and was tied for sixth at one-under par 143.
Sophomore Erynne Lee carded a 73 (+1) and was tied for 36th at 150 (+6). Her round featured a double bogey, three bogeys and four birdies.
Senior Jacquie LeMarr, playing as an individual, was in 84th place at 160 (+16).
