Seven members of the UCLA swimming team participated in the OC Marathon on May 5. Bianca Casciari, Briana Meyer, Kathryn Murphy, Karoline Sanderud, Lexy Troup all ran in the half marathon and finished under two hours.
Participants in the half marathon chose a charity to donate part of their entry fee.
"It was fun to try something new and at the same time working for it with some of my teammates," Sanderud said. "Since I'm a senior, I wanted to have something to motivate me to work out and find other interests besides swimming."
"Karoline and I ran around four times a week once our swimming season ended and the longest distance we did was eight miles," Meyer said. "We didn't really know what to expect and didn't want to take it too seriously, but this was our first race and we had a lot of fun."
