The Bruins' biggest lead was three on several occasions, while the Beavers' was one, as there were eight ties and four lead changes. UCLA scored four of the first six of the match on two Lawless kills and one apiece from Lowe and Nightingale, but three straight for OSU put the visitors up by one. The Bruins rallied with four in a row on Nightingale and Buechler kills, a Beaver attack error and a Formico ace to make it 8-5.
UCLA maintained its lead, until at 23-22, two in a row for the Beavers put them up by one and gave them a set point. Back-to-back kills for Lowe saved the set point and gave the Bruins one, but Oregon State saved it. Another Lowe kill earned another set point, but OSU saved it again. Lowe's 11th kill of the set gave UCLA a third set point and Lawless closed it out with her sixth kill of the opener to finish a 28-26 win. Nightingale added three kills, as the Bruins out-hit the Beavers .396 to .390. Formico added five digs.
The Bruins led wire-to-wire in set two, scoring five of the first six on two OSU errors, a Lawless kill and a Frager kill and ace. Oregon State closed to within two at 10-8 and was still down by a pair at 13-11 before UCLA ended the set on a 12-3 run to win by double digits. A kill by Nightingale, two in a row from Buechler, one by Consani and another from Buechler put the Bruins up 18-11.
At 19-13, the Bruins had another 5-0 run on Buechler and Frager kills, a Beaver attack error and Frager and Lowe kills to make it 24-13. On UCLA's second set point, a Lawless kill wrapped up the 25-14 win. A kill by freshman Olga Strantzali, an OSU attack error and a block from Frager and sophomore Maddy Klineman got the Bruins to within four at 21-17, but they would get no closer, as the Beavers won the third 25-19. Buechler and Lawless each had three kills for the Bruins, who were out-hit .129 to .097.
The Bruins held a slim 4-3 lead in set four, but it would be their last advantage of the set, as the Beavers reeled off runs of 4-0 and 10-1 to go ahead 13-5. UCLA mounted a small comeback with a 5-1 run, but would get no closer than four.
