Tarazona, White Win on Final Day of A3 Performance Invitational

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. - Senior Noelle Tarazona (200 Butterfly) and sophomore Madison White (200 Backstroke) each won races on the final day of the A3 Performance Invitational at East Los Angeles College, as a total of 11 Bruins reached the championship finals on Saturday.
200 BackstrokeWhite was first in the morning with a time of 1:58.18, which improved her NCAA 'B' qualifying time. Two other Bruins joined her in the A final, as freshman Marie-Pierre Delisle was seventh (2:01.92) and junior Katie Kinnear placed eighth (2:01.94).
Six more Bruins qualified for the evening session. Freshman MK Kish was 12th (2:03.51) in the prelims, while freshman Hannah Grubbs was 13th (2:03.89). Making the C race were senior Ally Loper (18th, 2:04.54), freshman Natalie Amberg (18th, 2:04.54), sophomore Emily Hammond (21st, 2:04.69) and senior Courtney Wilde (24th, 2:05.90).
White maintained her top position in the evening with a 1:55.91, more than two seconds quicker than her morning swim and improving her NCAA 'B' time. Kinnear (2:00.38) and Delisle (2:00.57) finished fifth and sixth respectively in the A race, each improving on their morning times.
Kish was fifth in the B race and 13th overall (2:03.85). Loper won the C race with a time of 2:00.45, four seconds quicker than her prelim time. Also in the C race were Amberg (19th, 2:03.45), Hammond (20th, 2:04.71) and Wilde (22nd, 2:06.30).
100 FreestyleSophomore Linnea Mack and senior Monica Dornick each made the A final. Mack was third in the prelims with a time of 49.97, improving her NCAA 'B' qualifying time, while Dornick was sixth at 50.70.
Seven additional Bruins qualified for the evening swim. Freshman Carly Reid was ninth (50.92), freshman Katie Grover placed 12th (51.24), sophomore Madison Applegate finished 14th (51.43) and freshman Sarah Kaunitz was 17th (51.66) to make the B event. Qualifying for the D race were White (28th, 52.11), sophomore Nina Hayes (32nd, 52.34) and sophomore Savannah Steffen (34th, 52.42).
Mack led a 4-5 finish in the evening for UCLA, as Mack posted a swim of 49.80 to improve her NCAA 'B' time, while Dornick had a 50.21. Reid won the B race with a 50.87. Applegate was third in the same race (11th overall, career-best 51.12), while Kaunitz was 14th overall (51.24). Hayes (29th, 52.28) and Steffen (30th, 52.35) represented the Bruins in the D race.
200 BreaststrokeSenior Jessica Khojasteh placed fourth in the morning with a time of 2:18.56. Two more Bruins, senior Taylor Carlson (17th, 2:22.07) and sophomore Maggie Burton (24th, 2:23.12), made the C final, while sophomore Brigitte Winkler advanced to the D race (33rd, 2:24.38).
Khojasteh maintained her fourth spot in the evening with a mark of 2:15.64, nearly three seconds quicker than her morning swim, while posting an NCAA 'B' qualifying time. Carlson won the C race with a 2:19.48, also nearly three seconds faster in the evening. Burton was 23rd overall (2:22.75), while Winkler won the D race (career-best 2:20.62), almost four seconds better than her prelim swim.
200 ButterflyThe Bruins pulled down five of the eight spots in the A final, as Grover led the way with the top time of 1:58.74 to set an NCAA 'B' mark. Tarazona was fourth (2:01.39), followed by Kinnear (5th, 2:01.55), junior Arlyn Upshaw (6th, 2:01.68) and freshman Anna Quinn (7th, 2:01.81). Applegate had the 19th-best time in the morning (2:04.58), while Kish was 29th (2:06.95).
In the championship final, Tarazona led the Bruin contingent with a first-place finish of 1:56.68, which was an NCAA 'B' qualifying time. Grover was third (1:58.21), followed by Quinn (4th, 1:58.65), Kinnear (5th, 2:00.63) and Upshaw (7th, 2:01.89). Grover's time improved her NCAA 'B' mark, while Quinn set an NCAA 'B' time. Kish was 31st (2:06.97).
1650 Freestyle
Sophomore Hayden Walker was fourth with a swim of 17:03.07 to lead a pair of Bruins. Junior Shannon Cheung placed 18th (17:40.40).
400 Freestyle RelayThe Bruin foursome of Grover, Mack, White and Dornick finished third with a time of 3:22.23. The UCLA B team of Applegate, Reid, Carlson and Kaunitz had a mark of 3:27.04.
