Golfers Grab Third at NCAA Championship in Tulsa

The Bruins posted their best team score of the tournament – a two-under par 278 – and placed third with a 72-hole total of 1,145 (+25).
“I'm proud of this team,” said Head Coach Carrie Forsyth. “We played well today – too little, too late for us – but we fought and hung in there all week.”
Duke won its sixth NCAA crown in women's golf with a four-round total of 10-over par 1,130 after recording a final round team score of 274 (-6). USC was second at 1,132 (+12) following a round of 270 (-10) on Friday. Oklahoma placed fourth at 1,147 (+27) and Arizona State was fifth at 1,150 (+30).
Sophomore Louise Ridderstrom led the UCLA lineup with a strong seventh place finish, posting an even par 70 in the final round. She recorded a 72-hole total of 828 (+2).
“I started off a little bit rough today,” said Ridderstrom, who played the outward nine in two-over par 37. “I felt like the conditions were a little bit easier. I was able to play better on the back nine.”
She responded with birdies at the 10th, 12th and 13th; only a bogey at the last kept her from going under par.
Freshman Alison Lee had the team's best score, firing a three-under par 67 to finish in a tie for 38th at 10-over par 290. Like Ridderstrom, hers was a tale of two nines. She played the outward side in one-over 36, but blistered the homeward side in four-under 31 where she birdied the 10th and 18th, and made an eagle at the 16th.
Junior Erynne Lee posted a 73 (+1) and tied for 43rd at 291 (+11). A birdie at the ninth gave her a 34 on that side, but a triple bogey at the 14th and a bogey at the 16th gave her a 39 coming home.
Freshman Bronte Law and senior Ani Gulugian tied for 50th at 13-over par 293. In her final collegiate round, Gulugian posted an even par 70.
“I fought so hard today,” said Gulugian. “ I couldn't have hit it any better, and I was making putts left and right all day.”
Law posted a score of 71 (+1) in her final round as a freshman.
“It was a pretty boring round. I didn't make my first birdie until the 13th hole,” she said. “I played pretty solid; I just didn't hole many putts.”
