Bruins Tied for Sixth after Round One in Oklahoma

On an odd weather day when strong winds and steady rain dominated the morning rounds and subsided in the afternoon, the Bruins fought par and carved out a team score of 11-over par 299. Alabama and California were tied for first place at 295 (+7), followed by Florida and Kent State one shot back at 296 (+8). Host Oklahoma State was alone in fifth at 10-over 298. The Bruins were tied with Minnesota.
Individually, freshman Bronte Law led the Bruins with a first-round score of 73 (+1). Law's round featured birdies at the ninth and 18th holes and three bogeys. Sophomore Louise Riddeerstrom and freshman Alison Lee were next in a tie for 25th with scores of 75 (+3). Ridderstrom battled back from a four-over par 40 on the outward nine to a one-under par 35 on the inward side, while Lee had no birdies and three bogeys. Junior Erynne Lee was tied for 41st after posting a 76 (+4) and senior Ani Gulugian was tied for 55th after signing for a 77 (+5).
Kent State's Wad Phaewhichimplee held the first round lead after firing an opening-round 65 (-7).
After 54 holes of stroke play, the top eight teams advance at each of the three regional tournaments to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship, May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club.
