Campbell Wins 1500 Free National Championship on Final Day in Irvine

IRVINE - Katy Campbell concluded the final day of the Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships on a high note for the Bruin contingent by winning the 1500 Freestyle on Sunday at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Complex.
Campbell, one of two Bruins swimming on Sunday, had a career-best 16:17.59 to win the race by more than two seconds. Campbell is the first UCLA swimmer since Kim Vandenberg in 2004 (200 Butterfly) to win a National Championship.
The other Bruin to swim on Sunday was Linnea Mack, who placed 45th in the morning preliminaries of the 50 Free with a 26.26. She still had a chance to make the C Final, but lost in a swim-off with a personal-best 25.91.
On Saturday, Campbell (18th, 4:14.16), Ally Loper (62nd, 4:23.32) and Kacey Milligan (64th, 4:24.01) each swam in the 400 Free, while Madison White (24th, 1:02.44) and Mack (62nd, 1:04.28) took part in the 100 Backstroke.
