Campbell Records Long Distance Double in Friday's Meet at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Katy Campbell captured the 500-1000 Freestyle double on Friday against second-ranked Stanford, but the 17th-ranked Bruins dropped a 151-92 decision to the Cardinal at Avery Aquatic Center.

UCLA goes to 7-2 in dual meets this season and 3-2 in Pac-12 meets, while Stanford improves to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in league meets.

The Bruins finished second and fourth in the opening 400 Medley Relay. Sophomore Madison White, junior Allison Wine, senior Noelle Tarazona and sophomore Linnea Mack swam a time of 3:42.15, while junior Katie Kinnear, senior Jessica Khojasteh, freshman Katie Grover and senior Taylor Carlson posted a 3:48.09.

Campbell led the Bruins to a 1-2-4 finish in the 1000 Free, swimming a 10:02.47, while sophomore Michaela Merlihan had a career-best swim of 10:06.40 to take second. Sophomore Hayden Walker was fourth (10:29.98). In the 200 Free, UCLA earned points in the two and four spots, as senior Monica Dornick was second (1:48.33) and freshman Carly Reid placed fourth (1:51.16).

The Bruins went 3-4-5 in the 50 Free. Mack was third (22.94), followed by freshman Sarah Kaunitz (23.86) and Khojasteh (23.89). The Bruins had a 2-4-5 showing in the 200 Individual Medley. Junior Arlyn Upshaw posted a time of 2:01.94, freshman MK Kish was fourth (2:05.05) and Tarazona fifth (2:05.18).

Sophomore Annika Lenz recorded the top UCLA finishes in both the 3-Meter and 1-Meter diving events. In the 3-Meter, Lenz was second with a 291.38. Freshman Ciara Monahan placed sixth (253.73), while sophomore Danni Repper was seventh (234.75). In the 1-Meter, Lenz was third (282.60), followed by Monahan (235.43) and Repper (234.00). The Bruins were without the services of freshman Maria Polyakova, who is in her native Russia for her country's National Championships and junior Montana Monahan, who has a thumb injury.

UCLA had three point earners in the 200 Butterfly. Grover was second (1:58.20), Tarazona third (1:59.42) and freshman Anna Quinn fifth (2:02.04). Dornick was second in the 100 Free with a 50.46, while Mack was third (50.72). In the 200 Back, White was second (1:59.14) and Kish went fifth (2:02.41).

Campbell completed the long distance double with a win in the 500 Free, recording a time of 4:52.83. Merlihan was second again with a career-best mark of 4:55.25, senior Ally Loper placed fourth (4:59.33) and Reid was fifth (4:59.46).

In the 200 Breast, the Bruins had a 3-4-5 finish. Khojasteh was third (2:18.09), Carlson fourth (2:20.95) and sophomore Brigitte Winkler fifth (2:20.97). In the final race of the meet, the Bruins were second and fourth in the 400 Free Relay. Grover, White, Kaunitz and Dornick had a 3:25.17, while Reid, Kinnear, Quinn and Upshaw were fourth (3:29.13).

The Bruins take on #3 California on Saturday in Berkeley. Diving starts at 11:20 a.m., followed by swimming at 12 p.m.
