NINTH-RANKED BRUINS HOST OREGON, OREGON STATE
The ninth-ranked Bruins wrap up their four-match homestand this week against Oregon on Thursday at 8 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion and Oregon State on Sunday at 11 a.m. at John Wooden Center. Thursday's match will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks, along with live audio and live stats on UCLABruins.com. Sunday's contest will air on Pac-12 Networks, with live stats on UCLABruins.com.
TICKETS AND PROMOTIONS
Tickets for this week's matches can be purchased in advance online or at the Pauley Pavilion (Thursday) or John Wooden Center (Sunday) ticket offices starting one hour before the match. Thursday's match is Military Appreciation Day, where all veterans, members of the armed forces and public safety personnel are invited to enjoy complimentary admission for them and up to three guests. WHAT'S NEXT
The Bruins are on the road for their next three matches, starting with a trip to the desert to take on #21 Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. PT and #19 Arizona on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 11 a.m. PT. The ASU match will air on Pac-12 Networks, while the UA contest will have a live online video stream.
BRUINS IN THE POLLS
The Bruins checked in at ninth for the second week in a row in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll. UCLA received only one fewer point in this week's rankings. The Bruins are one of six Pac-12 teams ranked inside the Top 25 (#2 USC, #3 Washington, #6 Stanford, #19 Arizona and #21 Arizona State), with Colorado (32nd most) also receiving votes. Other ranked or receiving votes teams on UCLA's schedule include #7 Hawai'i, #23 San Diego, #27 SMU and #30 Long Beach State.
BRUINS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The Bruins rank in the Top 50 nationally in four statistical categories, coming into the week at 14th in assists per set (13.50), 17th in kills per set (14.28), 38th in digs per set (16.55) and 43rd in blocks per set (2.51). Individually, junior Jordan Anderson is sixth in kps (4.77), 17th in points per set (5.06) and 29th in attacks per set (11.73).
BRUINS IN THE PAC-12 RANKINGS
UCLA comes into this week's action ranked second among conference teams in assists per set (13.50), third in kills (14.28) and digs (16.55) per set, fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.176) and service aces per set (1.17) and fifth in hitting percentage (.241). Junior Jordan Anderson is second in kps (4.77) and points per set (5.06), junior Taylor Formico is fifth in dps (4.28) and redshirt sophomore Ryann Chandler (10.00) and freshman Zana Muno (9.93) are fifth and seventh, respectively, in assists per set. In addition, junior Claire Felix is seventh in hitting (.360) and junior Jennie Frager is eighth in bps (1.21). In Pac-12-only matches, Chandler is first in aps (11.52), Anderson is second in kps (4.83) and pps (5.01), Formico is third in dps (4.55) and senior Rachel Inouye is fifth in saps (0.27), while as a team, the Bruins are second in dps (16.96).
MUNO NAMED PAC-12 FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Freshman Zana Muno was named Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday after helping the ninth-ranked Bruins to a pair of victories last week against Colorado and Utah. Muno, who received her second Pac-12 FOW accolade of the season, posted a pair of double-doubles to extend her streak to six straight matches, with 42 assists and 14 digs against Colorado and 47 assists and 19 digs versus Utah.
Muno nearly had a double-double in the first set against the Buffs last Wednesday with 17 assists and eight digs. She added two kills and a block versus CU. On Friday, Muno had at least five digs in each of the first three sets against Utah, posting two kills, a block and an ace.
Muno leads the team with 11 double-doubles and is second with 9.93 assists per set and 3.36 digs per set, adding 33 kills, 19 blocks and 11 service aces.
Since 2011, when the conference started handing out Offense, Defense and Freshman of the Week honors, the Bruins have claimed four Freshman of the Week awards. Zoë Nightingale was FOW on Sept. 26, 2011, Reily Buechler received the accolade last Oct. 20 and Muno won the honor this Sept. 14.
NEWS AND NOTES
The Bruins have won 62 straight matches when hitting .300 or better. They have surpassed that mark six times this year, posting season bests in hitting in back-to-back contests against Colorado (.343) on Oct. 11 and Arizona (.373) on Oct. 16 ... over the last two seasons, UCLA is 40-0 (19-0 this year) when leading the hitting percentage battle ... the Bruins have held their opponents at a .202 hitting percentage or lower in 17 of their 20 victories ... UCLA is 19-0 when winning the opening set, 13-0 when serving more aces than its opponent and 14-0 when winning the blocking battle ... junior Jordan Anderson reached the 20-kill mark for the eighth time this season last Friday against Utah when she tied a season high with 25. Anderson, who also posted 25 kills at Oregon on Oct. 23, leads the team with 22 double-figure kills contests, having reached the 20-kill mark once in each of the last three weeks of action. She surpassed the 1,000-kill mark on Sept. 13 at UC Santa Barbara and has 1,266 for her career ... sophomore Reily Buechler has double-doubles in three of her last four contests, including twice during the Bruins' last road trip (16 kills, 10 digs at Washington State and 17 kills, 12 digs at Washington). Buechler, who did not play last week and is day-to-day, tied a career best with 21 kills on Oct. 25 at Oregon State and has 15 double-figure kills matches this season. She posted her first career match with zero hitting errors against Arizona on Oct. 16 when she had 16 kills in 31 attempts for a .516 percentage ... redshirt junior Haley Lawless has at least four kills in 15 of her last 19 matches, posting six in two sets against Colorado last Wednesday ... senior Karly Drolson has double figures in digs in three of her last five matches, posting a season-best 14 at OSU, 13 against Colorado and 11 at Washington. She also has an ace in three of her last five, giving her 12 on the year ... junior Claire Felix has at least one block solo in seven of her last eight matches and 10 of her last 12, posting a career-high three against Arizona State on Oct. 18 and WSU on Oct. 30. Felix, who has recorded at least four kills and one or no errors in 11 contests, did not commit a hitting error in three straight matches (Oct. 11, 16, 18) with 21 kills in 38 attempts (.553) ... freshman Zana Muno ran her double-double streak to six with two more last week (47 assists, 19 digs vs. Utah and 42 assists, 14 digs vs. Colorado) to earn Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors. Muno, who leads the team with 11 double-doubles, set season bests at OSU in assists (52) and digs (24) ... junior Jennie Frager has surpassed the five-block mark in a team-high 10 matches, notching at least one block solo in five of her last six. Offensively, Frager has at least five kills in eight of her last 10 matches, setting career bests with 12 kills and a .706 hitting percentage versus ASU ... junior Taylor Formico extended her double-figure digs streak to 13 with a pair last week (16 vs. Utah, 13 vs. Colorado). Formico has 21 double-figure digs matches. She is also second with 17 service aces, producing at least one in 13 of 24 matches ... senior Rachel Inouye recorded her seventh double-figure digs match and tied a season best with 14 against Utah. She has really stepped her serving game up in her last five matches, posting an ace in each contest (nine total), including a career-best four versus Colorado ... freshman Kyra Rogers set career highs in kills (9), attempts (21), hitting percentage (.381), digs (14) and blocks (6) against Utah. She also had a season-best two aces versus Colorado ... redshirt sophomore Jessyka Ngauamo has double figures in kills in three straight, setting a career high with 19 against Colorado. She also had 12 kills against UW and Utah, adding five digs and four blocks versus the Utes ... prior to getting injured during the first set at Oregon, redshirt sophomore Ryann Chandler started six straight matches from Oct. 2-18, averaging 12.84 assists and 2.58 digs per set during that stretch. Chandler, who is day-to-day, posted her third double-double of the season with 43 assists and a season-best 14 digs against ASU.
SCOUTING THE OREGON DUCKS
Oregon (12-11, 6-8 Pac-12), which plays at USC on Wednesday, has alternated wins and losses in its last four matches, defeating California and Colorado, while falling to Stanford and Utah. The Ducks are averaging 14.12 kills, 1.01 aces, 15.13 digs and 2.02 blocks per set, hitting .242 as a team. Three players are averaging over 2.00 kps, led by senior Martenne Bettendorf's 3.59. Freshman Lindsey Vander Weide is second at 3.21 kps, while sophomore Taylor Agost is third (2.73). Sophomore Maggie Scott runs the Oregon offense and is posting 10.39 assists per set to go with a team-best 22 service aces. Junior Amanda Benson is tops on the squad with 4.52 dps, while junior Kacey Nady is first with 0.91 bps.
SERIES HISTORY: BRUINS VS. DUCKS
The Bruins improved to 53-10 all-time against the Ducks with a four-set victory in Eugene on Oct. 23 (25-22, 19-25, 28-26, 29-27). Jordan Anderson set a season best with 25 kills, Reily Buechler (11 kills, 12 digs) and Zana Muno (48 assists, 11 digs) each had double-doubles, Taylor Formico notched 26 digs and Jennie Frager added eight blocks. UCLA is 29-2 in home matches against Oregon, winning in four in Santa Monica last Oct. 15.
SCOUTING THE OREGON STATE BEAVERS
Oregon State (5-19, 3-11 Pac-12), which plays at USC on Thursday, has lost seven of eight, with the only victory coming against California last Friday. The Beavers are averaging 11.60 kills, 1.01 service aces, 14.02 digs and 2.28 blocks per set, hitting .180 as a team. Three players are averaging over 2.00 kps, led by sophomore Mary-Kate Marshall's 3.82. Redshirt junior Katelyn Driscoll is second (2.49), while junior Lila Toner is third (2.01). Redshirt junior Dana Backlund (8.23 assists per set) and redshirt freshman McKenna Hollingsworth (7.65) split the setting duties. Freshman Kayla Ellis is first with 3.26 dps, while redshirt senior Haley Clarke is tops with 1.03 bps.
SERIES HISTORY: BRUINS VS. BEAVERS
UCLA extended its winning streak against Oregon State to 15 with a five-set victory in Corvallis on Oct. 25 (25-16, 25-21, 19-25, 23-25, 15-5). Reily Buechler led the Bruins with 21 kills, Zana Muno had a double-double with 52 assists and 24 digs, Taylor Formico added 32 digs and Jennie Frager posted eight blocks. The Beavers have been close to snapping the streak, but have fallen in five sets in three of the last five contests. UCLA is 27-2 at home against Oregon State, including a five-set win in Santa Monica last Oct. 17.
