Bruins Head to A3 Performance Invite

November 18, 2015 | Swimming & Diving

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Owners of a 4-1 dual meet record and a No. 19 national ranking, the Bruins head out on the invitational circuit for the first time this season, traveling to East Los Angeles College for the A3 Performance Invitational.

"We've had two weeks of hard training," said UCLA head coach Cyndi Gallagher of the team's time spent since its trip to Arizona.  "They figured out what worked, what didn't work, and what they needed to work on.  We've been kind of pounding that the past two weeks."

The meet, which runs from Thursday through Saturday, will be held at ELAC's Swim Stadium in Monterey Park.  Three-day session passes are $30, two-day session passes are $20, general admission tickets are $15 a day and student/child tickets are $5 per day.

Each day of competition starts with preliminaries at 9 a.m., while finals begin at 5 p.m.  Live results will be available through the Meet Mobile app, available on iTunes, while daily results will be posted here

"The meet is similar to Pac-12's and NCAA's, so the girls will see what it's like to do prelims and finals in one day," said Gallagher.  "It's six sessions.  It's exhausting.  They'll have to make quick changes between swims too.  It'll be a learning experience for the freshmen and for the coaches."

On Thursday, the meet starts with the 200 Free Relay, followed by the 500 Freestyle, 200 Individual Medley, 50 Free, and 400 Medley Relay.  The 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, and 800 Free Relay are scheduled for Friday.  Competition concludes on Saturday with the 200 Back, 1650 Free, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 400 Free Relay.

The Bruins are coming off a 1-1 weekend on the road against the Arizona schools.  UCLA fell to the then No. 20 Wildcats on Friday before rebounding to beat the Sun Devils (180-116) on Saturday.
