March 27, 2015 | Men's Tennis
Playing without its usual No. 1 player Mackenzie McDonald, UCLA went with senior Dennis Mkrtchian at the top spot on Friday. Mkrtchian, who is ranked No. 26 nationally, was able to post a straight-set victory, downing Oregon's top player Daan Maasland, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Martin Redlicki and Ryoto Tachi were also straight-set winners on the day, as Redlicki downed Daniel Sardu, 6-3, 6-3 at court No. 2, and Tachi was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Brent Chin at court No. 6.
With the match already decided, Karue Sell (court No. 3), Austin Rapp (court No. 4) and Joseph Di Giulio (court No. 5) all prevailed in 10-point tiebreakers in place of third sets at their respective courts.
Prior to singles, UCLA notched the one point awarded for doubles play following wins at court Nos. 1 and 2.
McDonald was not available for Friday's match as he is still alive in the USTA Men's Pro Tennis Championships of Calabasas, a futures event on the ITF Circuit.
UCLA returns to the courts tomorrow, hosting Washington at 3:00 p.m.
