Summer Swim Continues in Russia, Oregon

KAZAN, Russia and MT. HOOD, Ore. - A trio of current Bruins, one future Bruin and a UCLA alum competed in or are in the midst of competing in swimming events at the FINA World Championships and the USA Swimming Futures Championships.
Senior-to-be Katy Campbell, a member of the U.S. Women's National Team, swam in her lone event at the FINA World Championships, the 1500 Freestyle, on Monday. She placed 18th with a time of 16:39.98 in her last event with Team USA this summer after making the finals in two events at last month's World University Games in South Korea.
UCLA alum Ting Wen Quah competed in three Butterfly (50-100-200) events and three Freestyle (50-100-200) events for her native Singapore. Her best finish was in the 200 Fly, when she placed 29th (2:14.93).
She will swim six consecutive days in the 100 Fly (Aug. 3), 200 Free (Aug. 4), 200 Fly (Aug. 5), 100 Free (Aug. 6), 50 Fly (Aug. 7) and 50 Free (Aug. 8). Quah's results will be posted on the FINA Worlds website and updated in this article at the conclusion of the meet.
Back stateside, sophomores-to-be Marie-Pierre Delisle and Carly Reid and incoming freshman Alex Hubel were in Mt. Hood, Ore. for the USA Swimming Futures Championships (July 30-Aug. 2). Delisle and Reid each made four finals, while Hubel reached one.
Delisle reached one A final in the 200 Back, going 2:22.18 in the morning prelims, which was fifth, and finishing seventh in the final (2:22.85). She was also in the B finals in the 100 and 200 Fly. She placed 11th in the 200 Fly (2:18.27/2:20.67 prelims) and 13th in the 100 Fly (1:03.83/1:03.80 prelims). Delisle made the C race in the 100 Back, going 1:06.73 in the prelims (19th) and 1:06.38 in the final (18th).
Reid made three B finals and a C race. She improved positions in all four finals. In the 200 Free, Reid went 2:06.53 (12th) in the prelims and 2:05.44 (11th) in the final, while in the 400 IM, she was 5:05.29 (13th) in the prelims and 5:04.74 (11th) in the final. In the 400 Free, she was 14th in the morning (4:27.04) and 13th in the evening (4:27.27). In the 50 Free, Reid was 24th (27.45) in the prelims and was 23rd overall after a 27.08 in the C final.
Hubel was 16th in the preliminaries of the 100 Free with a time of 58.81 and improved to 11th (3rd in the B final) in the evening with a 58.30.
