Coach Martin Hits 500th Win in Opener

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The No. 12 UCLA men's tennis team blanked No. 65 University of San Francisco in the Bruins' season opener on Wednesday, earning head coach Billy Martin his 500th career win.

UCLA (1-0) did not take long to register a pair of wins in doubles, posting victories on court Nos. 2 and 3. After Austin Rapp and Gage Brymer downed USF's Christian Brockstedt and Ryan Marker, 6-1, on court 2, Maxime Cressy and Martin Redlicki captured the doubles point with a 6-2 win on court 3.
The Bruins made quick work of the Dons (1-1) in singles as well, taking first sets on all six courts. Straight-set wins by Redlicki (No. 1) and Rapp (No. 5) quickly put the Bruins ahead 3-0. After a closely fought first set, Joseph Di Giulio cruised past his opponent in the second set to clinch the match for UCLA and earn Martin his 500th win.
UCLA returns to action this Saturday as the Bruins host ITA Kick-off Weekend at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. No. 42 Georgia Tech and No. 62 New Mexico are slated to play at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday followed by No. 12 UCLA and No. 46 SMU at 12:00 p.m. Saturday's winners will meet on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The consolation match will take place Sunday morning at 10:00.
