RIVER HILLS, Wis. - Junior Tyler Collier finished two trips around the Milwaukee Country Club in first place, totaling 3-under 137 during Sunday's action, while the Bruins improved 12 shots from the morning to the afternoon to pull into second place after 36 holes of the Marquette Intercollegiate.
UCLA shot a 7-over 287 as a team in round one before shooting a dozen shots better (-5, 275) in the second 18. The Bruins (+2, 562) are two shots back of Northwestern (E, 560) heading into Monday's final round. UCLA goes off the first tee starting at 6:45 a.m. PT/8:45 a.m. CT. Collier followed an opening-round 68 (-2) with a 1-under 69 in the afternoon to lead the field by one shot after 36 holes. With a shotgun start beginning on the seventh hole, he rebounded from an opening bogey to get back to even-par with a birdie on the ninth. Following seven straight pars, Collier bogeyed the 17th to return to the front side at 1-over. He rallied with an eagle on the third and a birdie on the sixth to finish his first round with a flourish. On his second 18, Collier had birdies on the 11th and 18th to go with a bogey on #17. He balanced his books with a birdie on the fourth and a bogey on the fifth to take a one-shot lead into Monday's round. Collier tees off at 7:21 a.m. PT/9:21 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Matt Hutchins, playing as an individual, is tied for third after an even-par 70 and a 1-under 69 (-1, 139). Starting on #13, he opened with a bogey, but quickly got that stroke back on #15. Following bogeys on #17 and #1, he made three birdies in a row on the third through fifth holes. Hutchins made bogeys on #6 and #7, but came back with a birdie on the ninth and ended up at even-par through 18. In his second round, he made bogeys on #15 and #16 before birdies on the 17th and second. Hutchins doubled the sixth, but would get back in red figures with three-straight birdies on #9, #10 and #11. Hutchins will begin on the 10th tee at 6:36 a.m. PT/8:36 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Cole Madey and freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara are tied for 12th at 2-over 142. Madey was four shots better in the afternoon, following a 3-over 73 with a 1-under 69. Starting on the sixth, his lone first-round birdie came on the 10th to go with four bogeys. The red numbers were more plentiful in the afternoon, as Madey gained strokes on #10, #13, #18, #3 and #5 to go with four bogeys. Madey will tee off on Monday at 7:12 a.m. PT/9:12 a.m. CT.
Yoshihara was six shots better in the afternoon. Following a 4-over 74 in his first collegiate round, he came back with a 2-under 68 in his second 18. Starting on the seventh, his lone birdie came on #12 to go with five bogeys. In his second round, Yoshihara made three quick birdies on #9, #10 and #12, with his lone miscue coming on the fifth. He will begin his final round at 7:03 a.m. PT/9:03 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Phil Delisi is tied for 32nd (+6, 146), shooting a 2-over 72 and a 4-over 74. Starting on the eighth, he made three birdies on #15, #1 and #3 to go with three bogeys and a double. He birdied a pair of holes in his second round on #9 and #3, adding six bogeys. Delisi will tee off on Monday at 6:54 a.m. PT/8:54 a.m. CT.
Sophomore Patrick Murphy was nine shots better in the afternoon, following an 8-over 78 with a 1-under 69 (+7, 147). After making eight bogeys and no birdies in his opening round, he came back with three birdies and two bogeys in his second turn. Starting on the fifth, he gained strokes on #8, #18 and #3 to go with bogeys on #2 and #6. Murphy will begin his final round at 6:45 a.m. PT/8:45 a.m. CT.
