RIVER HILLS, Wis. - Sophomore Matt Hutchins shot a 1-under 69 on Monday in the final round of the Marquette Intercollegiate at the Milwaukee Country Club to finish in a tie for third, while the Bruins placed third as a team.
UCLA shot a final-round 3-over 283 to finish at 5-over (845), placing third and nine shots back of first-place Northwestern.
Hutchins, playing as an individual, finished the tournament at 2-under 208. Starting on the 10th tee, Hutchins made five birdies on #11, #3, #5, #8 and #9 to go with four bogeys. Junior Tyler Collier, who entered the final round with a one-shot lead, tied for fifth (-1, 209) after a 2-over 72 on Monday. His lone birdie came on #5 to go with three bogeys. Sophomore Cole Madey jumped into the top 10 with a 1-under 69 to finish the tournament at 1-over 211 (T-10). He made three birdies on #3, #9 and #15, adding a pair of bogeys. Freshman Hidetoshi Yoshihara tied for 22nd after his first three collegiate rounds at 4-over 214. He totaled three birdies on #8, #11 and #13 to go with five bogeys to shoot a 2-over 72 on Monday. Sophomore Patrick Murphy shot an even-par 70 in his final round and tied for 29th at 7-over (217). He opened his round with 14 straight pars, adding a birdie on #15 and a bogey on #17. Sophomore Phil Delisi shot a non-team scoring 3-over 73 on Monday and tied for 32nd at 9-over (219). His lone birdie came on #16 to go with four bogeys.
The Bruins return to the course at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Ga. (Oct. 21-23).
