Bruins Have Georgia on Their Mind

ALPHARETTA, Ga. - The Bruins, ranked 31st in the latest Golfweek rankings, head to the Peach State this weekend for the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate. The 54-hole tournament runs from Friday through Sunday at The Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside (par 72, 7,017 yards) and Creekside (par 72, 7,039 yards) courses.
The Bruins' scoring fivesome will be junior Tyler Collier, sophomores Matt Hutchins, Cole Madey and Patrick Murphy and freshman Spencer Soosman. UCLA will play the Lakeside Course on Friday, starting at 6 a.m. PT/9 a.m. ET in the order of Soosman, Murphy, Madey, Hutchins and Collier. The Bruins will then play the Creekside Course on Saturday, beginning at 6:05 a.m. PT/9:05 a.m. ET. Sunday's pairings will be determined by the 36-hole scores. Live scoring will be available here.
Joining the Bruins and host and #24 Georgia Tech in the 17-team field are #2 LSU, #3 Oklahoma State, #4 Auburn, #7 Wake Forest, #9 Virginia, #11 Oklahoma, #13 Stanford, #20 USC, #21 Clemson, #22 Duke, #26 Texas A&M, #27 Texas, East Tennessee State, TCU and Villanova.
UCLA opened the season with a third-place showing at the Marquette Intercollegiate (Oct. 2-3). The Bruins shot a 5-over 845 as a team, ranking nine shots back of Northwestern. Hutchins posted the best Bruin finish in Milwaukee. Playing as an individual, he tied for third at 2-under (208), finishing one shot back of the co-tournament champions after rounds of 70-69-69. Collier tied for fifth at 1-under (209), holding the 18- and 36-hole leads following rounds of 68 and 69 before shooting a 72 in his final round. Madey rebounded after an opening-round 73 to shoot back-to-back 69's to tie for 10th (+1, 211). Murphy also had a great comeback following an opening-round 78, shooting 69-70 in his final two trips to tie for 29th (+7, 217). Soosman, the 2015 L.A. City Junior Champion and member of the 2015 U.S. Junior Walker Cup squad, will be playing in his first collegiate event.
The Bruins are making their seventh-consecutive appearance in this tournament and have played in this event every year but one (2006) since its inception. UCLA finished 14th last year, with Murphy (T-36, 221, +5) and Madey (T-60, 226, +10) both participating. The Bruins won the event in 2011 and also had second-place showings in 2007, 2010 and 2012. In 2009, the Bruins had their only medalist in this event, Erik Flores, who posted a score of 212 (-4).
