UCLA Earns Sixth-Straight Win, 3-2 at Oregon

Showing great resiliency throughout the contest, No. 11 UCLA earned a 3-2 victory at Oregon on Sunday afternoon to extend its winning streak to six games. Redshirt junior Claire Winter scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute on a header off a MacKenzie Cerda corner kick.
UCLA (9-2-0, 3-0-0 in the Pac-12) found itself down 1-0 early after a Kyra Fawcett left-footed shot from 15 yards out found the back of the net at 2:43. But the Bruins caught a break in the 26th minute when Gabrielle Matulich sent a ball into the box. An Oregon defender and the Ducks goalkeeper both made a move on the ball to clear it out, but the defender's clearance attempt went past the goal line for an own goal.
The Bruins broke through with the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute when Gabbi Miranda scored on a direct free kick from just outside the box, her second goal of the season. However, the Ducks equalized seven minutes later when Abby Morrow battled for a ball at the top of the box and sent a shot to the far post past UCLA goalkeeper Teagan Micah to make the score 2-2 at 78:40.
UCLA scored its game-winner on another set piece. At 85:17, Cerda found perfect placement on her corner kick service, hitting Winter in the box. Winter put her head on the ball and headed it past Oregon goalkeeper Katelyn Carter into the top right corner for her first goal of the season and her first career game-winning goal.
Oregon (6-5-1, 0-3-0) and UCLA each had nine shots in the game. The Ducks owned a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. Micah had four saves for the Bruins, while Carter had two for the Ducks.
The Bruins will return home to face California on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 7pm.
