Bruins Dominate at Pink Meet

LOS ANGELES, Calif. โ The Bruins posted nine first-place finishes in their home-opening Breast Cancer Awareness meet on Saturday afternoon.ย Seven swimmers recorded top times between the lane lines, while senior Annika Lenz swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events.ย
400 Medley Relay
UCLA recorded the top two times in the 400 Medley Relay to get things started on Saturday.ย The Bruin A squadโEmma Schanz, Sarah Kaunitz, Linnea Mack, and Kenisha Liuโswam a 3:45.06 to finish .20 seconds behind Florida Gulf Coast University's A team.ย Sabrina Kwok, Isabella Goldsmith, Katie Grover, and Caroline McTaggart posted a 3:48.55 to finish third.ย
1000 Freestyle
Redshirt senior Katy Campbell cruised to a comfortable victory in the 1000 Free.ย Her time of 10:13.52 was 11 seconds faster than the rest of the field.ย Junior Natalie Amberg placed third behind UCSB's Rachel Forbes with a 10:26.60.
200 Freestyle
Nabbing another Bruin victory, Mack swam the top time (1:49.43) in the 200 Free.ย Not far behind, freshman Cali Raukar finished third with a 1:51.68.ย Michaela Merlihan also placed in the top 10.ย The senior finished seventh with a 1:53.34.
50 Freestyle
The Bruins went 3-4-5 in the splash and dash, led by McTaggart's 23.80.ย Senior Madison White placed fourth with a 23.90, just .08 seconds ahead of Liu in fourth (23.98).ย
200 Individual Medley
Schanz nabbed the Bruins' third first-place finish of the day when she recorded the top time (2:03.39) in the 200 IM.ย Goldsmith and Sarah Kaunitz placed second and third, respectively.ย Goldsmith swam a 2:05.02 to finish just ahead of Kaunitz (2:05.20).ย
1-Meter Diving
Lenz and Kat Friese went 1-2 in the 1-meter final.ย Lenz posted the top score of 290.70, while Friese recorded a 279.00.ย Madeline Russell also finished in the top five.ย The sophomore placed fifth with a 235.90.ย Rounding out the Bruin divers, sophomore Traci Shiver posted a 232.25 to finish seventh.ย
200 Butterfly
Two Bruins hit the pool for the 200 Fly on Saturday.ย Freshman Amy Okada posted a 2:01.30 to finish second, while junior Marie-Pierre
Delisle placed fourth with a 2:02.62.ย
100 Freestyle
UCLA recorded three top-10 finishes in the 100 Free.ย Swimming the top time of 50.07, Mack bested the field by more than a second.ย Grover placed third with a 51.71 and Carly Reid finished 10th with a 52.44.ย
200 Backstroke
In her second first-place finish of the day, Schanz edged Oregon State's Felicia Anderson by .04 seconds to post the top time in the 200 Back (2:01.65).ย
500 Freestyle
Three Bruins finished in the top five in the 500 Free, led by Merlihan's top time of 4:57.84.ย White swam the second-best time in the event, clocking in at 5:01.07.ย Rounding out the Bruin swimmers, Verger Gourson tied for fourth with USD's Mackenna Briggs at 5:03.61.ย ย
3-Meter Diving
Lenz notched her second first-place finish on the boards when she scored a 277.10 in the 3-meter final.ย Russell scored a 228.20 to finish fourth, while Shiver placed ninth with a 205.55.
200 Breaststroke
Liu recorded her first win as a Bruin in the 200 Breast. The freshman swam a 2:17.81 to finish first.ย Also placing in the top 10, Kaunitz finished fifth (2:20.69) and Brigitte Winkler finished seventh (2:21.57).ย ย
200 Freestyle Relay
Wrapping up the day with another relay, the Bruin B squadโMack, Nina Hayes, Amberg, Campbellโswam a 1:35.72.ย Reid, McTaggart, Delisle, and Raukar were close behind at 1:36.39, followed by Kwok, Savannah Steffen, Winkler, and Maisie Jameson at 1:37.17.ย The Bruin C teamโGoldsmith, Maddy Burnham, Lisa Kaunitz, and Okadaโswam a 1:37.24.ย
Next up, UCLA heads to Pullman, Wash. to take on Washington State.ย The Pac-12 showdown takes place Saturday, Oct. 29, and 11 a.m. PT.ย
