Galdiano Places Second at Nanea Pac-12 Preview

KOHALA, HAWAI'I - Playing in her home state for the first time as a collegian, freshman Mariel Galdiano fired a 5-under 68 on Tuesday at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview to finish in solo second. As a team, UCLA placed seventh (+31, 907) after a final-round 3-over 295, its best round of the tournament.
Galdiano was 4-under (215) in three rounds at the Nanea Golf Club, finishing two shots back of USC's Robynn Ree. The freshman was three strokes better from her first to second round and four shots better from her second to final round. Galdiano was bogey-free on Tuesday. With a shotgun start and beginning on the seventh hole, she birdied #12 and followed that with an eagle on the 13th. Galdiano then birdied the second and fourth holes, ending the round at 5-under.
Sophomore Bethany Wu tied for 17th at 5-over (224), struggling to a 6-over 79 on Tuesday. Beginning on the sixth, she had three bogeys, a double and a quad before finishing her tournament on a high note with birdies on #1, #3 and #5. Wu led the Bruins with 11 birdies. Sophomore Lilia Vu bounced back from a rough Monday to shoot a 4-under 69 to tie for 33rd (+11, 230). She birdied her first hole, the eighth, along with #10, #12, #18 and #6, with her lone bogey coming on the 13th. Senior Hadas Libman tied for 56th (+23, 242). She shot an 8-over 81 on Tuesday, making birdies on #13 and #6, six bogeys and two doubles. Freshman Clare Legaspi was 58th (+25, 244) after a 6-over 79 in her final round. Her lone birdie came on #13 to go with five bogeys and a double. Junior Joo Seo, playing as an individual tied for 59th (+26, 245). She was +11 (84) on Tuesday with four bogeys, two doubles and a triple.
The Bruins conclude the fall portion of their schedule next week with a trip to the East Lake Cup at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Ga. The field will include the final four teams from last season's NCAA match-play semifinals (Washington, Stanford and Duke). All four teams will compete in stroke play on Oct. 31 before taking part in two rounds of match play on Nov. 1 and 2. Next week's tournament will be televised live on Golf Channel.
