Bruins Compete at #NationalIndoors

FLUSHING, NY โ Three Bruins head to New York this week for the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiateย Championships, to be held Nov. 3-6, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing.ย
On the men's side, senior Gage Brymer punched his ticket to New York when he won the ITA Southwest Regional Championships singles title back in October.ย The Bruin claimed this year's regional title with a straight-set win over USC's Thibault Forget.ย The win marked the third straight year that a Bruin defeated a Trojan in the championship match.ย
On the women's side, freshman Ena Shibahara earned her spot in the field when she took down second-ranked Luisa Stefani of Pepperdine in the 2016 Oracle ITA Masters championship final.ย Going down to the wire, second-seeded Shibahara pulled out the 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over her top-seeded opponent.ย
Shibahara is the No. 2 seed at this year's USTA/ITA National Indoors tournament.ย In all, six of the Top 10 players in the Oracle/ITA Division I Preseason Collegiate Tennis Rankings are in the singles draw.ย ย ย ย ย ย
Also partaking in doubles competition, Shibahara will pair with fellow Bruin Jada Hart.ย The duo captured the Junior Girls' Doubles crown at the U.S. Open in September when they edged fellow Americansย Kayla Day and Caroline Dolehide in a super tiebreaker.ย Shibahara and Hart are the USTA Wildcard selection for the tournament.ย ย ย ย ย
As the only tournament on the ITA calendar to showcase elite players from every level of college tennis, the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships serves as the culmination of the fall season. Hosted by Columbia University, this prestigious event features a 32-player singles draw and a 20-team doubles draw for men and women.ย
Gaining automatic entry into the tournament are champions from the USTA/ITA Division I Regional Championships held across the country in October, winners of the ITA Oracle Cup, and the consolation champions, doubles finalists, men's singles quarterfinalists and women's singles semifinalistsย from the Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's and Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships.
