Early Goal Downs UCLA at No. 11 Washington
November 03, 2016 | Men's Soccer
Seattle, Wash. - Abu Danladi recorded nine shots, including three on goal, while Kevin Silva tallied seven saves as UCLA fell at No. 11 Washington, 1-0, on Thursday from the Husky Soccer Stadium. The Bruins have now lost four straight Pac-12 matches.
"Tonight was a snapshot of our season," said UCLA head coach Jorge Salcedo. "We gave up an early goal but dominated in most other facets of the game, except for the score, which is all that matters."
Washington scored the match's lone goal in the second minute as Henry Wingo collected a free kick inside the box and was able to take a low shot to the far-left post for his first of the season.
The Bruins outshot the Huskies, 23-13, including 9-8 in shots on goal. They also held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
UCLA almost tied the match in the sixth minute as Danladi beat the Washington goalkeeper to a ball but the ensuing shot just went over the crossbar and fell on top of the net. In the second half, Seyi Adekoya found a streaking Danladi to the near post in the 55th minute but Danladi was unable to get his shot by the keeper. Later in the 71st minute, UCLA would make another strong run at goal but Brian Iloski's shot was stopped once again by Washington's Auden Schilder for one of his nine saves.
UCLA (8-7-1, 3-5-0) continues its final roadtrip of the regular season as they travel to Oregon State on Sunday starting at 1 pm.
