The Sun Devils came back to take their first lead of the match at 12-11 and extended it to as much as three at 15-12, but a 4-1 UCLA run on a kill and ace by Buechler, a Frager kill and an ASU error equaled things at 16. Despite ties at 12, 14, 15 and 16, four in a row on an Anderson kill, a Van Winden solo block and two ASU errors put the Bruins up 20-16. UCLA maintained at least a two-point lead the rest of the way, winning the set on Buechler's sixth kill of the second to take it 25-22.
